Harry Hildebrand

Director of Boarding
BSc (Hons) Monash University, Dip Ed. Monash University

As Director of Boarding at Haileybury Rendall School, Harry Hildebrand brings decades of experience acquired in schools within Australia and overseas.

Initially a teacher at Wesley College in Melbourne, at the end of 1996 Harry resigned to travel. He has visited 77 countries, including travelling up the Amazon River which eventually led him to Peru. It became his home until Harry moved to Darwin to join HRS at the end of 2023.

Harry has held positions as Head of Biology, Head of Science, Assistant Head and then Deputy Head of Markham College in Lima — a forward-thinking, co-educational independent school based on the British education system. He founded and led Markham’s HELIX Programme (Holistic, Experiential Learning, Leadership, International citizenship and the X-factor) that helps students develop leadership skills, build awareness of their place in the wider world, and find their passions.

Harry took students to remote communities in the Amazon jungle and to the Peruvian coast and Andes to build new homes alongside local people. He spent years learning the culture of Indigenous communities, building trust with their leaders and understanding how students could support and learn valuable lessons from those communities.

Harry brings this depth of experience with Indigenous communities to HRS, where he will support and strengthen the integration of Indigenous students into the school. He will also broaden mutual understanding and appreciation between indigenous and non-Indigenous students.
