Haileybury Rendall School has again been recognised as one of Australia’s and the Northern Territory’s best private schools.

NEWS 31 July 2025

A landmark new report, Australia’s Top 100 Private Schools list, has placed Haileybury Rendall School in second place in the Northern Territory – a significant achievement for our teachers, students, staff and the families who support us.

To compile the inaugural list, created by News Corp, more than 20 different metrics were analysed. These included our academic results and achievements across the school, our NAPLAN and ATAR results, student-teacher ratios, the breadth of subjects available to students at the school, the range of facilities, and the depth of our co-curricular activities and sports programs.

With more than 3,000 private schools operating across Australia, Haileybury Rendall School’s ranking as one of the best private educational institutions in the Northern Territory is an impressive achievement and every member of our community should be very proud.

“We are especially proud of the fact that we are the only private school in the Northern Territory that caters for day students, for boarders and students can also choose to study with us online,” says Haileybury Rendall School Principal, Andrew McGregor.

“Importantly, from Year 7 onwards, we also provide education to 150 Indigenous students, including those from some of the remotest communities in the Northern Territory.”

Haileybury Rendall School’s placement in Australia’s Top 100 Private Schools list recognises a number of factors, including the school’s focus on evidence-based teaching practices, particularly in literacy and numeracy.

“We know that building strong literacy and numeracy skills leads to strong overall outcomes for our students,” says Mr McGregor.

Diversity and inclusiveness are also important to the success and wellbeing of students and staff at the school and Haileybury Rendall School has previously been recognised nationally as Australia’s Regional School of the Year and as Boarding School of the Year by the Australian Education Awards.

“HRS sits on Larrakia country and more than 900 young people from across the Northern Territory, Western Australia and Queensland are at the heart of our school community,” says Mr McGregor.

“We are the largest Indigenous boarding school in Australia and we have worked hard to create a welcoming environment for our Indigenous and non-Indigenous students.

“Every day, each of those students engages in two-way learning in an environment that is culturally, physically, psychologically and spiritually safe. They are encouraged and supported to feel valued and successful and we are very proud of the fact that, when young people leave our school, they go on to contribute to their families and communities and to the wider world.

“I’d like to congratulate all the schools on the list and thank our educators, staff, students and families who are part of the Haileybury Rendall School community. Your efforts have helped our school be the great school that it is today.”
