Haileybury Rendall School came together to celebrate all things reading for Book Week!
Book Week, an initiative of the Children’s Book Council of Australia, celebrates books, authors, illustrators, and highlights the importance of reading.
This year’s theme was ‘Curious Creatures, Wild Minds’, with students across the school participating in a range of activities at recess and lunch to enhance their creativity.
On Tuesday, the HRS Library Committee organised a student vs staff debate. The Middle and Senior School students battled it out against the English Department on the topic: Harry Potter is the greatest book series of all time.
The staff team argued against and after a very close debate, they won with the loudest audience cheers!

It was fantastic to see so many students and staff supporting each other and a testament to the outstanding student leaders and excellent academic culture we have at Haileybury Rendall School.
Our Year 1 students were very excited to have the VCAL students visit their classrooms as part of the Buddy Class program during this special week.
The VCAL students shared original stories that they had written and published on Snapfish, which were inspired by the fable ‘The Bad Kangaroo’ by Arnold Lobel. This literacy activity focused on developing all students reading, writing, listening and speaking skills. The Buddy Classes can't wait to meet again!
On Thursday, the Junior School students participated in the annual Book Dress Up Parade and showcased costumes based on their favourite literary characters. These costumes were some of the best yet!
The students also competed against staff in a Book Week Spelling Bee to find the best spellers! This time the students took out the win against their teachers - with a little bit of help and a lot of spirit!
