This year at HRS, we formed an eco and sustainability student committee who will work to improve environmental sustainability within the school community, led by our Sustainability Prefect, Charlotte (Year 12). The eco-committee's goal is to drive initiatives, raise awareness, and implement changes to beautify our school and make it more eco-friendly, for students, staff and our community to enjoy.
The committee have demonstrated a keen focus on organising eco and sustainability events, campaigns, and educational activities to promote environmental awareness among students, staff and the local community.
One of their first projects undertaken was a collaboration with HRS Junior School students. Together, the committee and Junior School students have commenced revegetation efforts at the pond located at the bottom of the school grounds. They planned, promoted and participated in a working bee held in recent weeks, with approximately 30 staff, parents and students all volunteering their time, to assist with the project. The clean-up was a huge success and marks the beginning of an exciting project to encourage native wildlife back into the area and work towards an environmental sustainability rating for our school.
