Haileybury Rendall School students in Years 9–11 have recently returned from a study tour of China which has helped them to gain cultural insights and build international friendships. The students have also had the opportunity to gain new confidence as they have stepped beyond their classrooms and into the wider world.
A major highlight of the tour was experiencing life as a student at Haileybury Tianjin, Haileybury’s China-based school located approximately 45 minutes from Beijing’s CBD.
The students also enjoyed a reciprocal visit to Sanshui Foreign Language School. Earlier in the year, students from Sanshui spent ten days in Australia, staying in the School’s boarding house and immersing themselves in the life of the Haileybury Rendall School community.
The visit to China in the Term 3 break gave students the opportunity to meet overseas peers and experience daily life in another country.

The tour allowed students to broaden their perspectives, deepen their understanding of another culture and learn the importance of communication, curiosity and adaptability. “Experiences like these help students grow in independence and resilience, while also encouraging them to become more open-minded and globally aware young people,” said Brendan Evans, Director of Activities.
During their time in China, students also explored a range of exciting and historically significant destinations. In Guangzhou, they enjoyed a river cruise, visited the iconic Canton Tower and sampled a variety of local cuisines. The group also visited some of China’s most renowned historical treasures, including the Terracotta Warriors, Forbidden City and Great Wall of China.
Most importantly, the study tour created opportunities for students to challenge themselves, embrace new experiences and gain a greater appreciation of the world around them. Programs such as this reflect the rich learning opportunities available to Haileybury Rendall School students to help them grow as people while developing knowledge, skills and confidence.
