Boarding news

The boarding community has enjoyed another busy and rewarding term, with students embracing every opportunity to learn, explore and connect both on and off campus. From exciting excursions to memorable community events, it has been wonderful to see our students continue to develop confidence, independence and strong friendships through the wide variety of experiences on offer.

Our weekend activities program has once again been a highlight of the term. Students enjoyed a fantastic day exploring the Royal Australian Air Force Open Day, where they were able to learn more about aviation, defence careers and the impressive capabilities of the Australian Defence Force. It was an engaging and educational experience that sparked plenty of interest and conversation among our students.

We also made the most of the beautiful dry season with a day trip to Berry Springs. Students enjoyed spending time outdoors, swimming, relaxing and sharing a meal together in one of the territory's most popular natural attractions. These opportunities to experience the unique environment of the Top End continue to be an important part of boarding life and provide valuable time for students to unwind away from the busy school week.

Celebrating the diversity of our community remains an important focus, and many students thoroughly enjoyed attending the Thailand Grand Festival. The vibrant performances, delicious food and cultural displays provided a wonderful opportunity to experience and celebrate another culture while strengthening our appreciation for the diversity that exists within both our boarding community and the wider Darwin community.

Students also enjoyed several social outings throughout the term, including regular trips to the movies, visits to Crocodylus Park to experience some of Australia's iconic wildlife, and, as always, plenty of evenings spent at the Mindil Beach Sunset Markets. The return of the markets has once again proven to be a favourite, with students enjoying the relaxed atmosphere, great food, live entertainment and spectacular Darwin sunsets.

A particularly memorable evening this term was the opportunity to welcome special guest speaker Jeremy Donovan to our boarding community. Jeremy shared his personal story of resilience, determination and leadership, encouraging students to believe in themselves, embrace challenges and recognise that success is built through perseverance and a willingness to keep learning. His presentation was both inspiring and thought-provoking, and we thank him for taking the time to invest in our students.

Without doubt, one of the biggest highlights of the term was the Royal Darwin Show. Students thoroughly enjoyed experiencing everything the show had to offer, from agricultural displays and entertainment to rides, food and showbags. It was fantastic to see so many students enjoying this much-loved territory tradition together and creating lasting memories with their peers.

Throughout the term, our focus has remained on fostering a safe, supportive and inclusive boarding community where every student feels a strong sense of belonging. We are incredibly proud of the way our students continue to embrace new experiences, support one another and represent Haileybury Rendall School with pride wherever they go.

As we move towards the midpoint of the term, we look forward to celebrating the many achievements of our students and the enthusiasm, connection and strong sense of community that continue to make boarding life such a rewarding experience.
