Our School musicals are the talk of the town!

After thoroughly enjoying the evening performances recently of The Addams Family and discussing the brilliant entertainment with many people, it is clear that we have created a great cultural piece for Haileybury Rendall School and the wider Darwin Community.

On Saturday night, I was joined in the audience by His Honour, Hugh Heggie, the Chief Administrator of the NT, and his wife, Ruth. They met the lead members of the cast before the show and were then captivated by the entire event. His Honour fervently shouted “Bravo!” at the end of every act and at one point turned to me and said, “This is so professional – I cannot believe they are school kids!”

When I arrived at HRS one of our ideas was to create a fun performance that involved lots of students, plenty of singing and dancing, engaging music, and strong staff guidance. The first musical I saw was Annie, and it was very well done and most enjoyable, but total student involvement was less than 20. Once we opened up the musicals to Years 5 – 12, we have seen Beauty and the Beast, High School Musical, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and The Addams Family. We now have almost 100 students involved across acting, singing, dancing, music, choreography, backstage, props, sound, and lighting.

We even have recent alumni returning to help with the show. Yes, it has all been great fun, but I am not sure anyone realised just how GOOD these productions would be. So much talent on display, emerging talent and first-time performers wowing us.

Such commitment and dedication from staff and students to put on a brilliant show. Thank you to all involved, all who watched, and all who keep spreading the word about our amazing School community!
