Senior School news

Welcome back to everyone for 2024. We have several new staff (including myself), students and families joining the Senior School this year, so an additional welcome to those of you new to Haileybury in 2024.

It is exciting and can be challenging starting at a new school or workplace, however the welcome by the Haileybury Rendall community has been extremely supportive and embracing. I am looking forward to meeting all the students in the Senior School as we continue to strive for distinction in all we do, continuing to develop and nurture our community at Haileybury.

Year 12 prefects trip to Melbourne

This week I have had the pleasure of taking our Year 12 Prefects to Melbourne to visit our Haileybury counterparts. We travelled down on Sunday, arriving in the city in time for dinner at our hotel. The following morning, we walked through Flagstaff Gardens to visit the City campus. Some students had the chance to attend a class, while others had a tour of the facilities, including the rooftop social space, the indoor PE centre (including a running track), and the Arts and Drama centre. The rest of the day consisted of students meeting their host student at their respective campus (City, Berwick and Keysborough).

Tuesday saw all Senior students arrive at the Keysborough campus for classes in the morning and then a very formal Assembly, celebrating the Founders of Haileybury. We had the honour of sitting on the stage and hearing about the history of the school and the vision of its Principals throughout the years. It was then time for a meeting with CEO/Principal, Derek Scott, to discuss the various opportunities for connections between HRS and Haileybury Melbourne. Tuesday afternoon is school sport, and it was quite a novelty for HRS students to choose a summer sport to attend. Most popular were squash and lawn bowls!

Our final day was on Wednesday, with students experiencing a normal school day, attending classes and studying with other Year 12 students. By Wednesday night, there were 16 tired but very happy Year 12s heading home to Darwin. New friendships and connections had been established that will provide extra support through the year ahead. We learned about the differences and similarities between the two schools and hope to explore more opportunities to strengthen our relationships in the future.

Senior School Information Evening

A reminder to all students and parents that our Information Evening is on Monday 15, February. This will be a valuable and essential source of key information about the rules and academic processes that are involved in Senior School, particularly in relation to the VCE. I urge all students and parents to attend.
