Senior School news

The school leaders returned from Melbourne with many stories and ideas on how we can continue to develop the HRS community in Darwin. On their return the 14 Senior School Captains and Prefects were formally inducted at assembly as Senior School leaders.

Bombing of Darwin Commemoration service

Haileybury Rendall School was represented at the Bombing of Darwin service by our Junior School Captains, Grace Baunach and Rowan Unwin, Middle School Captains, Molly Maley and Cooper Wieck, Senior School Captains, Isiah MacDonald and Lakshya Chandra, and Boarding Captains, Max Rogers and Caitlyn Mawson.

Attending the bombing of Darwin commemoration was a humbling experience. Hearing stories of the tragic event, coupled with the war songs from the band created a visual image of the courage and strength Territorians showed, giving me a newfound respect for the sacrifice that they made". Isaiah MacDonald - School Captain, Year 12.

Fundraising and Student opportunities

Being involved in multiple activities and fundraising events is an important way for students to develop their sense of community and provides opportunities for students to work together to achieve a goal. The first of our fundraising events was held last week with the sale of roses for Valentine's Day.

With the incredible organisational skills of Ms Pickering-Tyers and the enthusiasm of our Year 12 leaders, ably assisted by students in Year 11 and Year 10, the school raised $486 which will be donated to a Heart Health charity.

Weekly English Masterclasses

Year 12 English can feel like one of the most daunting aspects of the final year of schooling, but our group this year has started in wonderful fashion with record attendance at our Wednesday Masterclasses.

Over the last few weeks, we have had over 25 English students attending these optional sessions to further improve their understanding of our text study of Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s classic Chronicle of a Death Foretold, guided by our expert and experienced teaching team.

In these sessions, students take a deep dive into the text, complete high-quality analytical writing of their own, and gain a better understanding of what it takes to achieve their best in English.

These Masterclasses will continue to run on Wednesdays throughout the year and are open to all Year 12 English students.

The Year 12 English teaching team is so proud of the hard work and effort this group is putting in to set themselves up for English success!
