Haileybury Rendall School has been named Regional School of the Year at the 2026 Australian Education Awards, with the national recognition reflecting the commitment of staff, students and families across the School community.
The Award recognises the most outstanding school in a regional or rural area based on excellence in teaching and learning, academic achievement, professional learning, strong connections with families, teachers and the broader community, and a commitment to innovation and continuous improvement.
Each year, the Australian Education Awards recognise top-performing government and non-government schools across the country in a range of categories.
Andrew McGregor, Haileybury Rendall School Principal, says the Award is a testament to the hard work, professionalism and dedication of staff across the School.
“This is an outstanding achievement and is a result of the sustained efforts of our brilliant and dedicated teachers who are always prepared to go the extra mile to support our students in their every endeavour,” says Andrew.
“A strong work ethic and genuine care permeate every aspect of Haileybury Rendall School. We are incredibly proud that our school and the teachers, staff and students who make it what it is have been recognised with this latest award.”
Haileybury Rendall School is proudly regional, situated on Larrakia Country and welcoming students from ELC to Year 12 from regional, rural, remote and international backgrounds.
Seventeen per cent of students at HRS identify as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and represent 59 Indigenous and international groups. The school aspires to be a leader in Indigenous educational excellence.
While academic achievement is a key focus across HRS, students are also supported by a comprehensive Wellbeing Framework, expert staff and evidence-informed programs that equip students with the knowledge and skills they need to navigate contemporary life challenges.
“Haileybury Rendall School continues to set the benchmark for educational excellence in the Northern Territory,” says Andrew.
In 2025, for the fourth consecutive year, HRS was recognised as the leading Primary School in the Northern Territory based on NAPLAN performance. More than 40% of VCE students attained an ATAR of 90 or above and 63% achieved an ATAR of 80 or above.
Student achievement also extends well beyond academic results.
“Beyond the classroom, students competed at the International Finals of Tournament of Minds, at the UN Youth NT Conference and achieved a top 23 world ranking for the Ethics Olympiad. On stage, the colourful 2026 production of We Will Rock You showcased the incredible talents of our students and music staff,” says Andrew.
“These are just a few examples of the opportunities enjoyed by students that contribute to Haileybury Rendall School’s rich and diverse learning environment.”
During the past 12 months, HRS has continued to strengthen its commitment to innovation and continuous improvement. The School has also continued to build strong and respectful partnerships with families and the broader community through events such as our International Women’s Day Breakfast, Sports Days, Open Mornings, ‘Level Up’ webinars and student interest clubs.
At HRS, there is a firm belief that when students, families, the School and the broader community work together, students are better placed to succeed.
