Senator Malarndirri McCarthy Visits

On Friday, 9 November we were honoured to be visited by Senator Malarndirri McCarthy, who made time to meet with teachers and students at Haileybury Rendall School.

Senator Malarndirri McCarthy is a Yanyuwa woman from the Gulf country in the Northern Territory, elected in August 2016.

Her focus is to bring communities together and ensure remote communities are engaged with and listened to on a national level.

During the visit, Senator McCarthy initially visited and spoke at the Middle School Assembly.

In her presentation she emphasised the importance of education and making the most of the opportunities Haileybury Rendall School presents for the students.

She also seemed to enjoy the enthusiastic renditions of our School songs which are being sung with increasing enthusiasm.

After the assembly two of our boarders, Jaye Raymond, Shenea Mason and Head of Boarding, Mr Andrew Junge gave the Senator a quick tour of our boarding houses.

She was delighted to see the improvements the renovations had made to the facilities.

Senator McCarthy then visited a class taught by Mr Thairon Margetic before joining the teachers for morning tea.

Her experiences bring unique perspectives to the role of Labor Senator for the NT, a familiarity with the challenges and opportunities facing Territorians, and the perseverance and determination to drive change.

It was a privilege to have Senator McCarthy visit Haileybury Rendall and we look forward to having her back again soon.
