The Early Learning Centre (ELC) was filled with excitement and pride as we celebrated the end of an incredible year with a vibrant music concert and a heartfelt graduation ceremony.
The festivities began with a spectacular music concert that showcased the talents of our young performers. The concert featured two year levels, each bringing their unique energy and creativity to the stage. Our Reception class charmed the audience with their delightful songs and rhythms, confidently demonstrating the skills they had developed throughout the year. Following this, the Preschool classes performed an impressive set of songs and musical pieces, leaving the crowd in awe of their coordination and enthusiasm. It was wonderful to see how music had become a source of joy and connection for these young learners.
An audience of 250 parents, family members, and friends packed the hall, their smiles and cheers creating a warm and supportive atmosphere. The children, energised by the encouragement, performed beautifully, and their excitement was contagious.
The morning continued with a very special graduation ceremony for 44 of our Preschool students. Each graduate was called forward to receive their certificate, presented by Principal Mr McGregor. It was a touching moment to witness, as the children beamed with pride while their families applauded their accomplishments. The ceremony was a true celebration of their growth and readiness for the next step in their educational journey.
To top off this milestone, the graduates were given a memorable send-off. Their older school buddies lined up to form a Guard of Honor, clapping and cheering as the Preschoolers walked through. This tradition symbolises the transition to the next stage of their schooling and was a beautiful demonstration of the sense of community we value at Haileybury Rendall School.
The celebrations concluded with a morning tea, where families, children, and staff came together to enjoy delicious treats and reflect on the achievements of the year. Cameras were in full swing as families captured precious memories, commemorating this significant day.
A heartfelt thank you goes out to our dedicated teachers, supportive families, and, most importantly, our amazing children. This day was a testament to the wonderful spirit of our ELC community. We are so proud of our graduates and can’t wait to see what they achieve in the future. To all our ELC families, we wish you a joyful holiday season and look forward to another fantastic year ahead.

As we approach the Christmas holidays and the close of 2024, it’s the perfect time to reflect on the remarkable achievements and milestones of the past year. Joining Haileybury Rendall School this year, I have been deeply inspired by how strongly the philosophy of “every student matters every day” is embedded in our community. It has been both an honour and a privilege to witness and contribute to this ethos in action.
This year has been busy and rewarding, filled with countless events, enthusiastic student participation, and impressive fundraising efforts. Congratulations to Djarrak House for claiming the House Competition title—a well-deserved victory that showcased their commitment, teamwork, and determination. The Senior School Academic Awards Assembly also celebrated the hard work and achievements of students, highlighting their dedication to success throughout 2024.
Special recognition goes to Year 11 students, Stephanie and Charlotte, for their exceptional contributions to the Youth Peak Voice Group. Their initiative, Postcards to the Commissioner, engaged 196 Senior School students to share their perspectives, influencing the NT Children’s Commissioner’s work in 2025. Elle Jackson, Community Engagement Officer, commended their efforts as “incredible work” that empowers young people to have a voice.
Congratulations are also in order for Oliver (Year 11) on his appointment as Ambassador for Northern Territory Youth Week 2025. This prestigious role will allow Oliver to play a key part in organizing events and encouraging youth involvement—an outstanding achievement that reflects his leadership and passion.
As we bid farewell to the Class of 2024, we send our best wishes for their upcoming VCE results and look forward to seeing the exciting paths they will take in their next chapters.

''This year went so slow and so fast, so many memories were made, like our trips to Litchfield almost every weekend. I formed lifelong friendships this year with many of the Year 12s, I have made unforgettable memories, priceless experiences, some funny, some bad but all worthwhile." This reflection from Year 11 boarder, Teniwah, beautifully sums up what has been an engaging 2024 for our Boarder Community.
I am delighted to see the way students across all year levels support one another, take part in the activities on offer, and develop our place that really does feel like a home away from home.
I am five weeks into my new role as Director of Boarding and loving what I am experiencing as well as the learning that is underway.
I want to take this time to thank all families and caregivers for entrusting us at Boarding with your precious young people. None of this would be possible without the commitment and support of the Boarding Staff, so I would like to wish them and our Boarders happy holidays.
We look forward to what excellence looks like in 2025 at HRS Boarding.

HRS Middle School Chinese classes provide students with a rich and immersive learning experience that goes beyond language acquisition. In addition to mastering Chinese vocabulary and grammar, students explore the depth of Chinese culture through interactive and engaging activities. One highlight of the program is the incorporation of Taiji (Tai Chi) practice, a traditional Chinese mindfulness exercise.
Taiji, rooted in ancient Chinese philosophy, emphasises the harmony of mind, body, and breath. Through slow and deliberate movements, students learn to focus, relax, and cultivate inner balance. This practice not only enhances their understanding of Chinese cultural traditions but also promotes mental clarity and physical well-being. As part of their Chinese language and culture studies, students reflect on the principles of YIN and YANG, gaining insight into how these ideas influence Chinese thought and daily life.
This unique integration of mindfulness into the curriculum enriches students' learning journey, fostering a deeper connection with Chinese heritage while supporting their overall well-being. At Haileybury Rendall School, we are proud to nurture well-rounded global citizens who appreciate the value of cultural diversity and holistic education.

Did you know that in the Philippines, Christmas celebrations begin in September?
This is just one of many fascinating facts that were shared during the recent Year 6 Asia Expo.
Visitors to the Expo were treated to an extraordinary array of information, mouth-watering foods and beverages, stunning costumes and traditional dress, and artefacts carefully sourced and arranged in ways to ensure that the significance and importance of each country could be understood by our VIPs.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge in such an impressive manner, Year 6!

As Term 1A draws to a close, our new Year 9 Chinese students took on the challenge of making tanghulu, the viral Chinese snack - fruit coated in a crunchy toffee shell.
While the procedure may seem simple, achieving the perfect tanghulu requires precision—especially in heating the syrup to the ideal temperature. Some students learned the hard way: heating the syrup too much results in a bitter, caramelised shell, while not heating it enough means the syrup won’t harden.
Despite the occasional mishap, the activity was a fun, hands-on experience. It provided a unique opportunity for students to immerse themselves in Chinese culture while learning practical skills like following instructions and problem-solving.
This cultural cooking session highlighted the importance of patience and attention to detail—qualities valuable in both cooking and language learning.
The results? A mix of delicious tanghulu and a few sticky, but entertaining, stories to share!
We’re proud of our students’ enthusiasm and creativity and look forward to more exciting cultural activities next term.

This year, our 12 Cushion Concerts provided a wonderful opportunity for over 50 students to showcase their progress in a warm and welcoming environment in the school library. With most of the performers being beginner students, the concerts offered a chance to embrace the excitement of live performance. From the first notes to the final applause, each concert was filled with moments of courage, growth, and pride.
A key part of this success was the supportive audience of classmates, friends, and teachers who cheered on our performers. Their encouragement created a positive atmosphere that allowed students to feel confident and proud of their achievements.
We are deeply grateful to all those who helped make these concerts possible, especially the students' dedicated tutors. Their commitment and expertise were essential in guiding our performers, teaching them not only technical skill but also the confidence to share their music.
The students played a variety of instruments, including Violin, Viola, Cello, Voice, Piano, Flute, and Saxophone, demonstrating their hard work and determination. Each performance was a testament to their dedication to improving and their passion for music.
Thank you to everyone who helped, supported, and attended these concerts. We look forward to many more performances in the future!

This term, our Year 7 Humanities students embarked on a thrilling virtual journey through the ancient worlds of Egypt and Greece using Assassin’s Creed Discovery Mode. By blending cutting-edge technology with historical exploration, this innovative approach brought ancient societies to life in a way textbooks alone could not achieve.
Students delved into the culture, religion, and societal structures of these civilisations, gaining unique insights into the daily lives of their inhabitants. They also researched significant historical figures and uncovered the stories behind some of history's most iconic landmarks.
As part of their exploration, students toured virtual historical locations led by famous historical figures. They sourced and analysed virtual historical artefacts to create their own real-world version of a curated digital museum.
This immersive experience not only deepened students' understanding of the past but also fostered critical research and analytical skills. By walking the streets of ancient cities and stepping into the shoes of historical characters, students developed a meaningful connection to the ancient world.
Our use of Assassin’s Creed Discovery Mode highlights our commitment to engaging, 21st-century learning experiences that inspire curiosity and deepen understanding.

To celebrate graduating Year 12, Haileybury Rendall School Stars students flew to Brisbane with an action-packed itinerary.
The group travelled around Brisbane and the Gold Coast visiting Australia Zoo and Movie World and they had a private tour of the Gold Coast Suns AFL Facilities led by club legend, Jarrod Harbrow. The girls were lucky enough to meet Indigenous players Benny Long, Malcolm Rosas Jnr, Joel Jeffrey, and Sean Lemmens, who are all from Darwin, and they met co-captain Jarrod Witts. The group had a VIP access tour of Suncorp Stadium before watching an international soccer match between the Australian Women’s Soccer Team, the Matildas verse Brazil! After the match, a couple of lucky Stars members met goalkeeper, Teagan Micah! To end the trip, what’s a holiday without a little shopping at Westfield?!
For some in this group, it was their first time leaving the Northern Territory and their first time flying on a plane! Such an amazing trip for the group.
A big thank you to the Gold Coast Suns AFL Club and Football Australia for having us.

Term 4 has been a sensational time with the Haileybury Rendall School Academy members returning from their holidays with a sense of energy and enthusiasm towards finishing what has been a wonderful year.
Our four Year 12s received their graduation and delivered four memorable speeches. There wasn’t a dry eye in the room as Max, Robin, Rahiri and Relton thanked the staff, teachers, boarding staff and of course the Clontarf staff for supporting them to finish Year 12 successfully. On to bigger and better things for these tremendous young men.
Congratulations to all this year’s award winners. What an outstanding effort to win these awards amongst such an incredible group of students.
This year, the Clontarf State of Origin was held in Melbourne where the best Clontarf football players from each state gather and represent their respective states. Selected in the team from HRS were Year 12 students Robin and Max and Year 10 students Mazlan, Sonny and Jaren. A massive congratulations to Sonny, Mazlan and Max who made it to the All-Australian Team with Max being named captain.

We look forward to seeing you all again and of course, spending some quality time with the students as they start another year!
